Peace Officer – Patrol

The Level 1 Community Peace Officer is responsible to enforce Provincial Statutes and Municipal Bylaws by conducting proactive patrols throughout the MD of Bonnyville. Crime prevention, school engagement, and traffic services are at the core of our operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Conduct highly visible patrols within the MD of Bonnyville to prevent and detect Municipal Bylaw and select Provincial Statute violations.
• Conduct investigations, compiling all evidence and drafting reports.
• Draft and complete various types of charging documents at the Municipal and Provincial level.
• Conduct checks of commercial vehicles to ensure safe operation and compliance with legislation.
• Conduct crime prevention patrols throughout the municipality to deter and detect crime.
• Perform various related tasks during a municipal emergency or disaster situation.
• Deal with dog and wildlife complaints.
• Operate in-car computer tablet to enter shift log entries, write reports, and conduct searches.
• Conduct traffic control for emergency situations, parades, funeral processions, and other activities.

Qualifications:
• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of three (3) years as a Police Officer, Provincial Peace Officer or Level 1 Community Peace Officer with traffic enforcement authority or equivalent.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s License (Subject to a driver license abstract check).
• Valid First Aid/CPR certificate.
• Experience working with Alberta Provincial Statutes is considered an asset.
• ASP baton, OC spray training within last 3 years.
• Criminal record check/Enhanced Reliability screening will be needed.
• Computer proficiency with MOVES, Microsoft Office, and Report Exec would be an asset.
• Deal effectively with investigations, resolve conflict, and perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Strong public relations, time management, and interpersonal communication skills are required.

Qualifications for Applicant without Previous Law Enforcement Experience:
• Grade 12 diploma supplemented by a two-year diploma in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.
• Completion of the Solicitor General’s Public Security Peace Officer training or equivalent.
