The Town of Penhold provides quality of life to those who live, work and play in Penhold. We believe that each employee contributes directly to the Municipality’s growth and success.

The Town of Penhold is seeking a team player for a permanent full time position as the Community Peace Officer (CPO) 1. Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager the successful candidate will work successfully within a team environment while being responsible to ensure and maintain the safety of residents and property. The Community Peace Officer 1 will be responsible for enforcing Municipal By-Laws and Provincial Statutes as approved by Alberta Justice.

Required qualifications:
• All applicants must have a minimum of two years post-secondary education (Law Enforcement and/Criminal Justice) or equivalent work/education qualification.
• Community Peace Officer 1 appointment
• Valid and current PARE certification as a condition of employment.
• The successful candidate must have a valid Class 5 Alberta Operators Licence.
• Must be able to work shifts which include days, evenings, and weekends on a rotational schedule.
• A valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate is required.
• Have a full understanding of the Traffic Safety Plan and adhere to its policy.
• Certified in Radar and Lidar equipment.
• Computer skills in Report Exec, Word and Microsoft Outlook are an asset.
• Must have knowledge in enforcing and ensuring compliance of authorized Provincial Statutes and local Municipal Legislation as outlined by the Solicitor General’s Department
• Must be able to pass a security clearance and adhere to the confidentiality of the position.


Job Duties:
Community Peace Officer (Level 1): includes but are not limited to:
• Always maintain and project complete professionalism.
• Obtain and maintain an enhanced RCMP security clearance.
• Pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) prior to hire.
• Certification to be appointed as a Peace Officer by the Solicitor General’s Office.
• Maintains training standards as required by the Alberta Solicitor General.
• Provides visible patrols within the assigned region.
• Conducts traffic enforcement efforts as required within the assigned region.
• Works to proactively support the local Traffic Safety Plans.
• Provide high priority on the protection, safety and maintenance standards of community infrastructure and assets.
• Provides proactive education sessions as per the needs of the community.
• Delivers available school programs as required or directed.
• Assists all municipal departments as required or directed.
• Provides traffic control at emergency scenes (Fire / Ambulance / Police)
• Responds to emergency situations to enhance public safety.
• Participates in JFO’s (Joint Force Operations) with outside agencies upon approval.
• Maintains good working relationship with outside agencies.
• Supports community initiatives and volunteers’ times as required.


The Town of Penhold offers a pension and benefit plan once the probationary period has been successfully completed. The hourly range for this position is $34.03- $41.43 per hour.
