The City of Beaumont is seeking an energetic, self-motivated dynamic individual that is committed to providing professional levels of service and education as the Municipal Enforcement School Resource Officer (SRO).

Working closely with local School Divisions and the RCMP, the SRO will create, modify and deliver curriculum meeting the needs of schools addressing current, arising and trending issues. The SRO will be responsible for establishing positive relationships with students of all ages providing advice and guidance to make informed choices through awareness, education and positive role modeling.

The City of Beaumont is one of Alberta’s fastest growing communities located 1.5km south of Edmonton giving residents access to all the amenities of a large metropolitan city while offering the lifestyle of a smaller, close-knit community.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Create, modify and deliver curriculum (working closely with school divisions) that meets the needs of local schools addressing
current, arising and trending issues
• Provide mentoring, counsel troubled students and refer to outside social services when necessary
• Provide structured class/assembly presentations, and distribution of educational resource materials
• Promote social awareness, relationship skills, self-management, self-awareness and responsible decision making
• Utilize problem solving initiatives to address issues in schools and conduct investigations as required
• Provide service outside of local schools which may include assisting with traffic and crowd control at Beaumont community
events by providing a visible presence
• Work collaboratively with other municipalities, professional organizations/associations to serve as a liaison between
students, schools and community
• Participate in and support school events as requested/required
• Prepare reports, document activities, complete administrative paperwork
• Function as a Community Peace Officer 1 during summer months
• Research and keep current with industry best practices and innovation and make recommendations

Qualifications:

• Post-Secondary Education in law enforcement, criminal justice, education, or related discipline, supplemented by four years
previous law enforcement experience as a Community Peace Officer 1 or member of the RCMP (an equivalent combination of
education and experience may be considered)
• Prior experience with community and school based programs with proven strong public relations experience
• Must meet all requirements of Alberta Justice Solicitor General Department to obtain a Level 1 Community Peace Officer
Appointment
• Valid Alberta Driver’s License (Minimum Class 5)
• Applicants must have successfully completed an approved Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) within the past
six (6) months
• First Aid / CPR certification
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office
• Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector deemed satisfactory by the City

This full-time, permanent position offers a salary range of $66,331 - $86,547 (starting salary is negotiable within this range based on suitable experience and qualifications), a competitive benefits package, and a 40-hour work week.
