The Town of Cochrane is located in the breathtaking Bow Valley corridor in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in southern Alberta. Please note: This is a 6-month term position; 23-40 hours/week flexible schedule for successful candidate.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager, Municipal Enforcement, this position enforces Town Bylaws and Provincial Statutes, including moving traffic, to gain compliance. The Community Peace Officer I also assists with public awareness & education and acts as a liaison with other agencies.

Key Accountabilities:
1. Education and enforcement of municipal bylaws and provincial statutes as appointed by the Solicitor General; includes the Traffic Safety Act, Provincial Offences Procedure Act, The Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Part 9, Division 2 of the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, Animal Protection Act and the Dangerous Dog Act.
2. Thoroughly investigate all complaints to ascertain validity; issues tickets and takes appropriate action to bring an equitable solution of compliance or enforcement.
3. Accurately and efficiently prepare investigative reports, legal documents, court information; testifies in court when required.
4. Conduct safe and efficient patrols of highways, pathways, green spaces, parks and residential area.
5. Develop and maintains working relationships with community groups, contractors and law enforcement agencies, such as the RCMP; assists them with public safety/awareness programs and/or initiatives.
6. Provide input and suggestions toward existing and new bylaws.
7. As required, attend council, public-at-large, and/or committee meetings.
8. Liaise with both internal/external stakeholders and upholds/models the esteem of the position’s role within the community.
9. Provide coverage throughout special community events or after hours in emergency situations as required.


Education and Experience:
- Completion of the Alberta Solicitor General and Public Safety Community Peace Officer Induction Program; Peace Officer I status or Community Peace Officer Level I training Equivalents as outlined in the Public Security Peace Officer Program Policy and Procedures Manual
- Minimum 1 year of experience, including experience with moving traffic violations
- Experience working with animals
- A combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience in municipal government considered an asset

Certifications, Licenses and/or Designations:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
- Standard First Aid with AED
- Radar/Laser
- OC Spray/Baton
- PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics)
- EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) is preferred
- PARE (Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation) or other physical tests as approved by the Director such as the POPAT, COPAT & Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police
- ISC 100
- FOIP Certification
