Dates and location have now been finalized for the Fall 2020 CPO 2 Legal Studies Course, instructed by Darlene Roblin (DKR Consulting)

Currently CPO 2 Appointments are still being issued upon application of authorized employers for candidates with appropriate training completed at this level. Transitional bridge training for legal studies curriculum is under development, that would be available for CPO 2 officers to complete as part of their transition to CPO 1.

This training course is also valuable to Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Officers as it builds on skill development regarding investigations, issuance of violation tickets, remedial orders, orders to remedy, creation of court briefs, court preparation and testimony.

Registration Deadline October 1, 2020
Registration Fee $1150.00 + GST

This highly rated course and instructor are approved by Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Department. Successful completion of this course is accepted as approved legal studies training for the issuance of a CPO 2 Appointment, when an application is made by an authorized employer of Community Peace Officers.

The following topics will be covered as they relate to the authorities of a CPO 2 / Bylaw Enforcement Officer

Introduction to law, criminal code, charter of rights, elements of crime, peace officer authority, powers of arrest / detention, arrest and release, municipal government act, bylaw enforcement, peace officer program, use of force, search and seizure, provincial offences procedures act, investigations, provincial statutes (animal control acts / regulations, traffic safety act / regulations, trespass to premises act etc) compiling and serving documents, court preparation and testimony, ethics and professionalism.

To comply with COVID-19 public health regulations, class size will be limited to 15 participants.
