CVSA Checks-Leduc/Beaumont Aug 2016

For Immediate Release:

On August 10 thru 13, 2016, the Leduc Municipal Integrated Traffic Unit joined forces with the Town of Beaumont Municipal Enforcement and the Sheriff Integrated Traffic Unit, conducting compliance checks on commercial and passenger vehicles in both the City of Leduc and Town of Beaumont. Agencies spent two days in each community ensuring vehicles were operating safely and within the regulations. Full NASI CVSA Level 1 inspections were conducted on commercial vehicles while regular compliance checks were conducted on passenger vehicles. The following statistics were obtained over the 4 day operation;

*# of vehicle checked = 42
*# level 1 inspections completed = 31
*# of defects recorded = 402
*# tickets issued = 47
*# mandatory Court appearances issued = 1
*# warnings issued = 355
*# dangerous goods violations = 6
*# vehicles towed = 4
*# of vehicles placed out-of-service = 24
*# of vehicles required attention = 5
*# of vehicles passed = 3

Other:
*1 recovered stolen vehicle
*a small amount of marijuana paraphernalia seized

The Leduc Municipal Integrated Traffic Unit, along with their partner agencies, have observed an increasing number of unsafe vehicles being operated on our roadways. The majority of violations prove to be defective braking systems including inoperable brakes, insecure cargo, dangerous goods violations, cracked frames, and drivers failing to adhere to the rules and regulations. The LMITU have dedicated their resources to continue on identifying public safety issues and improving traffic within the community.
