Hello,
Lac La Biche County is hosting a Transport Canada Enforcement Officer Training course. This is a 1-day 6 hour course that will be held on January 9, 2023. This course is free for participants.
Course description:
The class will cover the Canada Shipping Act, 2001, as it pertains to recreational pleasure craft, and the regulations that are created under the Act. This includes, the Small Vessel Regulations (SVR), Vessel Operation Restriction Regulations (VORR), and the Competency of Operators of Pleasure Craft Regulations (COPCR). It also very briefly covers some of the Collision Regulations, Navigation Safety Regulations, and the Criminal Code.
Transport Canada has created the Enforcement Officer’s Reference Manual to the Canada Shipping Act, 2001. The primary objective of the class is to familiarize officers with the manual and to go over in detail the enforcement officer’s authorities to conduct inspections and enforce regulations. The manual can then be used as an effective reference tool in the field.
The class will cover what the act and regulations legislate for recreational boating. Focusing on safety equipment for recreational vessels, safe operation, licencing of vessels, and the competency of operators and their proof of competency documents.
After giving officers an overview, we dive right into the act and regulations and give the officers hands on experience using them to answer questions and apply the legislation to real life situations. The goal is to get officers familiar with the regulations so they will be confident when out on the water doing safety checks and enforcing the regulations.

Is this something that has to be added to an appointment?
