Employment Opportunity – Community Peace Officer 1

The Town of High Prairie is seeking a full-time Community Peace Officer 1 with the Enforcement Services Dept.
The Town of High Prairie is looking for a highly motivated and community-minded individual to become part of the Enforcement Services Dept. Applicants must have the CPOIP training due to the nature of employment. This position will report to the Senior Peace Officer and is responsible for enforcement of municipal bylaws and authorized Provincial Statutes.
Investigate and resolve complaints in timely manner, this person will promote positive relations on behalf of the Town of High Prairie and have good public relations skills, excellent judgment and demonstrate interaction skills through education and enforcement of Municipal bylaws and Provincial Statutes, knowledge in court procedures would be an asset.
This position requires highly developed written and verbal communication skills and demonstrates strong dispute resolution skills.
This position requires evening, weekends, statutory holidays, and shift work and will be subject to working alone on most shifts.
Qualifications.
Preference may be given to those who possess a Diploma/Degree in Law Enforcement/Criminology from a recognized post-secondary institution or have completed the Community Peace Officer Level 1 training program as per Alberta Solicitor General’s Public Security Program or 3 years’ experience and employment in a Canadian Police Service or equivalencies as accepted by the Solicitor General,
Criminal records check, Background Security Check and Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance must be maintained.
Qualifications/Training
Class 5 driver’s license plus drivers abstract, Laser/radar training, OC spray and baton certification, Defensive Tactics, First aid/CPR, AED training and shotgun training and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course
Additional qualifications that are considered an asset.
Training in Commercial Vehicle Weights and Dimensions, TDG
Previous Law Enforcement experience, preferably in rural setting
Candidates that don’t have all relevant qualifications or required designations may be considered with the understanding that they will complete all necessary training as a condition of their employment.
Successful completion of an approved Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE) test within the last 6 months, submitted at time of interview.
The Town of High Prairie offers a competitive salary complete with LAPP benefits package;
salary $63,100 - $83,280. Plus, moving expenses and retention incentives.
