Law Enforcement Drill Fundamentals will focus on foot drill at the halt and on the move, flag/colour drill at the halt and on the march, flag bearer, flag party commander, section commander. Organized groups, be they law enforcement or armed forces personnel, displaying competence in drill movements are recognized as highly trained, well-disciplined and professional. Drill further teaches each member to combine individual movements with those of the rest of the team to show one’s place among a disciplined unit. Well executed drill develops individual pride and esprit de corps necessary for successful training and execution of drill movements. Drill plays an important part in gaining necessary skills during graduations, ceremonies, parades and Line Of Duty Death services. The discipline shown by members under such circumstances shows respect for fellow officers, but also for their families.

Steve Schmidt has served as a Peace Officer for over 15 years and 10 of those years with Strathcona County Enforcement Services. Steve has also worked for Alberta Corrections & the City of St. Albert Municipal Enforcement. Steve is the current Sergeant At Arms for the AACPO and has been serving in that capacity since 2020 and also serves as the Guard of Honour Commander for Strathcona County Enforcement Services. Steve has over 12 years experience being a member of or Commanding a Ceremonial Unit. He has trained with Ceremonial Units from all over Canada and recently took his Ceremonial Commander Instructor training with Calgary Police Service at the Canadian Police Ceremonial Training Course.
