The Town of Okotoks is hosting a 4 day, 32 hour Traffic Stop Safety Course March 7-10, 2024.

This course has been accredited by the Training Academy.

Course Outline
The Value of Traffic Stop Training
Traffic stops are an integral part of Peace Officer duties but can be one of the most dangerous facets of Law Enforcement work. Identifying traffic stop “best practices” is difficult because no two traffic stops are the same. This course Is comprised of information gathered from across North America based off research studies, computer generated crash simulations, policies, procedures and is meant to provide Peace Officers with the information to best determine the proper tactics based on the specific circumstances with each individual stop.

Traffic Stop Safety
This course is comprised of 32 hours of instruction time. This involves classroom presentations, development exercises as well as peer/instructor critique and a written examination.

This course will cover 9 Chapters including:
- Operational Traffic Stops
- Contact and Cover
- Cover and Concealment
- Tinted Window Stops
- Commercial Vehicle Stops
- Night-time Stops
- Non-conventional Traffic Stops
